TreeAid - Burkina Faso

A group of women, mainly uneducated, in the Dano province of Burkina Faso noticed the degeneration of the land surrounding them after large areas of forest were removed for firewood and farming. Realising how vital trees are to their lives, they decided to take control of the situation, and started a project uninduced to both protect the existing forests and replant more trees - naming it Toupouoor Baon-Yen, which translates as 'taking positive steps for self-reliance'. Many years later the charity TreeAid heard about their work and began to support them.
